Updated: Mar 20, 2021

Megalodon, meaning "big tooth", is a species of shark.

Sadly, megalodons are now extinct, as they lived about 3.6-2.3 million years ago. They are rumored to have lived during the Early Miocene to the Pliocene ages. Megalodons are close relatives to the great white shark.

Here are some interesting facts about Megladons:

1. The scientific name of the megalodon is Otodus megalodon.

2. Megalodons are the largest shark that has ever lived.

3. They are the biggest fish to ever exist.

4. It is guessed that megalodons were 15 to 18 meters in length, which is 3 times larger than largest ever great white shark.

5. Their teeth were 18 centimeters long.

6. Megalodons probably ate whales, sharks, and large fish. They also most likely ate dolphins and humpback whales.

7. The mouth-span of the megalodon is thought to be 2.7 by 3.4 meters wide, which is big enough to swallow to grown people laying together.

8. Megalodons had 276 teeth.

9. Megalodons might have been the most powerful predators to ever live!
