Throughout the history of man we have used boats to trade, travel and farm. Boats have played a huge role in our history. Many boats are solely known for how they sunk into the sea, carrying their precious cargo (like the titanic or the Lusitania).
The Lusitania met its end on May 7th 1915 it was struck down by a German U-Boat. The sinking of the Lusitania was an indirect reason as to why the United States entered WW1. It started construction in 1904, and it was made for transatlantic passenger trade. The following year, it was ready to set sail.
During that time, it was considered the largest boat in the world. It was around 787 feet, and it weighed 31,550 tons. It was known for its speed, and it was created by Britain. When it sunk, it was carrying rifle ammunition and shells. It was on its way back to the United Kingdom from New York City.
The boat had 1,959 crew mates; 128 United States citizens were aboard.
Everyone on the boat died within 20 minutes, marking this historic tragedy.
